Hunting for the 2008 Terpening-wald family Christmas tree

It's that time of year again; time to pick out the Terpening-wald family Christmas tree. Abby and I set out for the fifth year in row in our 1982 pickup truck to pick out the perfect tree.

For the first time in several years, the weather was finally on our side. It was 50-plus degrees and there was no snow within several thousand feet. The conditions were ideal for finding a tree.

After having no luck searching for a tree in places we'd never been before (because the roads have always been blanketed with snow), we headed back to our reliable "gravel pit" site. That's the spot where we've gotten the previous four trees.

I was searching for a tree that was smaller than last year. You know, one that we could lift and actually fit in our living room. Abby was again searching for a full tree. They don't make full trees in the forest.

Three hours later we finally found what we were looking for - the perfect tree. We knew right when we saw it that this was the one. It had a halo of light shining around it. Imagine a chorus of angels singing in harmony as we gazed up at the tree.

This is where we insert the quote from National Lampoons Christmas Vacation:
Russ - "Dad, that tree wouldn't fit in our front yard!"
Clark - "It's not going in our yard, Russ, it's going in our living room."

Our tree is 17 feet tall.

We were able to easily load and cart the tree home; a vast improvement over last year's tree. The next step is to put the tree up and light it. I'll get another post up once we're done with that. Stay tuned.

I have to say I feel a little awkward leaving you a message on your blog- like I was snooping or something- but I linked to your Blog through Kristen's... if you checked her blog recently you know that she hasn't been posting much. I wasn't ready to be done viewing blogs so I decided to see who I could check from her list thus bringing me to your blog... I laughed out loud at your tree stories! ...Terpeing-wald! HA! I love it!

Hi Nadine,
